Positive Behavior Support

MISSION:

West Hill Elementary School works to promote student achievement and responsibility by providing a safe and caring environment where students are a part of a family with teachers and staff serving as positive role models. Our expectations are posted in the classrooms and designated parts of the building. We are dedicated to defining, teaching and rewarding these expected behaviors.

TIGERIFIC EXPECTATIONS

  • Be Here

  • Be Ready

  • Be Respectful

  • Be Safe

EXPECTATIONS

Tiger Pride is strong at West Hill Elementary! Our school-wide positive behavior support program is in full swing and our students are being recognized for all of the positive things that they are doing.

In the first week of school we move the children through various centers to teach them what is expected in each area of the building. We teach them what it means to be here, ready, respectful, and safe in the following places: Hallway/Stairs, Cafeteria, Restrooms, Playground, Classrooms, Assembly, Arrival and Dismissal. The children do a fantastic job listening and practicing the expectations. The school then has an assembly to review everything that the children have been taught.

In order to reward the students of West Hill Elementary we have developed a reward system to acknowledge the children that continually exhibit an understanding of our rules. The students that are given these awards are called down to our Positive Behavior showcase each day. They are given a tiger pride pencil and asked to pick a numbered bingo chip from a container. The number that the child pulls is recorded on our Tiger Pride Grid to recognize them as role models. A post card is sent home to their parents to show that their child is behaving appropriately and that we are positively proud of them. When a row fills up on the grid a BINGO occurs and that row earns an extra prize.

We have set up a system called Tiger Bucks, for students that are following the school rules and the teacher feels they need to be rewarded.  The teacher will have tiger bucks to give to the students.  Once a student has earned 10 or more tiger bucks they will be permitted to go to the “Tiger Bucks School Store“, and can then trade in their bucks for an item at the store.  They will only be shopping at the store once a month and will only receive one item at the store per month.

At the end of each nine weeks students can earn an extra prize for following our 4 school rules.  If a student has not missed more than 4 days of school, has not been late to school more than 4 times, and has NOT had an office disciplinary referral (ODR) they can earn the prize.

At the end of each semester we have a larger prize for those students who have done the following above that was just mentioned.  In the past we have taken the students to see a movie at a movie theater and popcorn and a drink were purchased for them as well.  We have taken them on a field trip to the bowling alley where they bowled and had a pizza party for their outstanding attendance and behavior.

As parents, your only responsibility with this program is to encourage your child to follow the four school rules, encourage good behavior, and send your child to school every day on time.

Together, we do make a difference and we appreciate all of your hard work and dedication!

Thank you for your continued interest in your child’s academic, behavior and emotional success!

We are truly PAWSITIVELY PROUD of our students and we are looking forward to continually rewarding positive behavior.
