Interact Club Embraces the Real “Spirit” of InteractionSpirits in the Stadium is Sunday, October 27th from 1:00-4:00. Location will be in the high school commons area due to the weather.
Last year he Interact Club’s first big event of the year was a huge success. On Sunday, October 14th, the Interact Club members and their advisor, Mrs. Sandra Waltenbaugh, hosted Spirits in the Stadium. Due to high winds and a threat of rain, the event, originally planned for the football stadium, was moved indoors to the gym and the commons area.
Club members donned storybook and movie costumes and interacted with around 130 children up to the age of ten who came for a safe trick-or-treating experience. Over fifty members from the club took turns handing out treats and prizes, posing for photos, and interacting with the children as positive role models. The club is affiliated to Sharon’s Rotary, and the club’s goal is to complete local, national, and international service projects each year. The club’s members include many of Sharon High School’s honor students, and members often stay committed to community service ideals even after graduating.
Spirits in the Stadium included 13 settings with 7 backdrops, 6 large inflatable decorations, and 9 cutouts that allowed children to become part of the scenes. The event cost $4.00 per child and was free to adults when accompanied by a child. The Party Zone had a bounce around available, and the Moss family sold sweet concessions. The money raised from the event will be used to donate to a worthy international cause, to fund next year’s event, and to take club members on a field trip.
The club spent hours drawing and painting the scenes that were used, and the Waltenbaugh’s spent days planning, purchasing, and preparing for the event. There was a lot of excitement on Sunday. Everyone had a wonderful time, and the club is looking forward to hosting the event next year with an even larger turn out of children.
