Nolan Songer and Ella Labbiento Medal at D10 Meet

The Sharon Tigers had an impressive showing at the District 10 Swimming Championships held at the Spire Academy in Geneva, OH.  For the girls, the 200 Yard Medley Relay (Faith McSherry, Rachael Sadowski, Ella Labbiento and Ava McLaughlin) posted a time of 2:09.38, their personal best for the season.  Likewise, the girls’ 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (Labbiento, McLaughlin, Sadowski and Abby Douglas) posted a time of 1:48.26, shaving 5.12 seconds off of their previous best time.  In individual events, Labbiento swam the 200 Yard freestyle in 2:04.11, a personal best.  She also swam the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:28.13, which was not only a personal best, but a time drop of an amazing 18.55 seconds.  Her performance garnered her a 5th place medal and a trip to the podium.  McLaughlin also put in solid performances, with times of 56.66 in the 100 Yard Freestyle and 25.94 in the 50 Yard Freestyle, both of which were personal bests.   

For the boys, a total of six school records were broken over the weekend.  In the 200 Freestyle Relay Relay (Nolan Songer, Nikoli DoBosh Jake Cattron, and Ty Chartraw), the boys posted a time of 1:33.87, breaking the previous school record of 1:34.39.  Likewise, the same swimmers swam the 400 Free Relay in 3:27.92, shattering the previous school record of 3:34.40.  During the relays, Songer, as lead-off swimmer, also broke the school records for the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle, with times of 22.53 and 48.78, respectively.  The previous records of 22.6 and 49.1 were set by Brian Churlik in 1990. 

In individual events, Jake Auchter and Jake Cattron swam the 100 Yard Breaststroke.  Auchter posted a time of 1:13.04 (a personal best), and Cattron dropped 2.97 seconds for a personal best time of 1:05.51.  In addition, Cattron swam the 200 Yard IM, for a personal best time of 2:10.91.  Chartraw turned in solid performances in the 50 yard and 100 Yard Freestyle, with personal best times of 23.83 and 52.29, an improvement 2.76 seconds over his previous best time.  Lastly, Songer swam the 100 Yard Butterfly in 54.50, garnering him a personal best, a new school record, and a 5th place podium finish.  He also took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle, in which he posted a time of 1:46.65, a personal best and new school record.  Songer’s performances in the 100 Yard Butterfly and 200 Freestyle will send him to the PIAA State Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University, March 11 – 14.
